This week saw our lions take on the unenviable task of trying to knock off the undefeated top of the ladder Ashwood.
They boys were pumped to have dual AFL premiership player Brent Guerra pull the boots on and give us a helping hand.

Roy Dore had been a buzz of activity all day as Carrum celebrated their big footy weekend. And with the biggest crowd the lions had played in front of since finals a few years earlier they hoped to get off to a quick start. Unfortunately for the lions, Ashwood came out the blocks flying and mounted plenty of pressure. The undermanned Carrum backline did their best to withstand and repel the Magpies attack. A four goal to one quarter saw Ashwood take a 23 point lead into quarter time but Carrum wouldn't lie down.

The second quarter was a stark contrast to the first. The lions were first to the ball and opted for a more direct approach deciding to take the game on with the run of half back from Matt Jackson and Alex Hollingsworth being a catalyst for numerous rebound 50s. The genius of Tyler Neal in the guts saw multiple centre clearances and gave our forwards great opportunities. Then the class of Brent Guerra was on show with two second quarter goals, one from 45 out on the boundary and easy as you like straight through the middle. Ashwood kicked a goal moments before half time to wrestle back a bit of control and went in 15 points up at the half.

The start of the second half saw Carrum jump the Magpies and immediately put them on the back foot with incredible forward 50 pressure. Two goals in 5 minutes had the lead trimmed to just a single point. With Paul Mauracher leading the charge in the middle the boys could sense a great chance to get on top. The only problem, Ashwood flicked a switch and started getting on top, kicking the next 6 goals for the quarter to regain ascendancy. With the backline under siege, undersized fullback Toby Darma stood up in his best game for the club to hold the backline together. Ashwood took a 38 point lead into 3 quarter time.

In what had been a hotly contested 3 quarters, it didn't stop in the fourth. Carrum continued to take it to Ashwood in the last term, but they kicked away to show why they are deservedly top of the ladder. Lions never quit or rolled over and can take great pride out of taking it right up to Ashwood, showing the Carrum faithful that there is a bright future around the corner
